What can you do on a trip to the Seychelles?
If you are thinking of travelling to the Seychelles islands, here are some highlights of the main islands to consider when planning your trip:
- MAHÉ: This is the main island of the Seychelles, home to the capital Victoria; the majority of the population; the international airport and the nerve centre of the islands’ tourist infrastructure and commerce. In Mahé you can discover more than 60 beaches where, often, the only footprints you will find are your own. Trips to the Seychelles by plane start in Mahé.
- PRASLIN: The second largest island of the Seychelles, located 45 km northeast of Mahé. It is a paradise for nature lovers, noted for its rare endemic species. Known as “Isle de Palme,” it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as it is one of the only two places in the world where the Coco-de-mer grows wild, on palm trees 40 m high and 200 years old. General Gordon of Khartoum named it the Garden of Eden, impressed by its lush forests. In Praslin, you will find the beach of Anse Lazio, considered by many to be the most beautiful beach in the world.
- LA DIGUE: Globally known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, this small island is largely rural and is one of the most tranquil and relaxed places in the Seychelles. Anse Source d’Argent is the island’s most famous and visited beach, with its turquoise waters and huge granite rocks emerging from the water.
