Discover the Jozani forest

The excursion to Jozani Forest is a fascinating immersion into the rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems of Zanzibar. Located in the southern part of Unguja Island, Jozani Forest is home to the last remaining tropical rainforest in Zanzibar and offers visitors the opportunity to explore a pristine natural environment, teeming with wildlife and scenic beauty.

During this excursion, you will have the chance to walk along trails that wind through dense mangrove forests, swamps, and tropical rainforest. One of the main attractions of the forest is the population of Zanzibar red colobus monkeys, an endangered species endemic to the island. Guided by local experts, you will observe these primates up close in their natural habitat, learning about their behaviour, diet, and the conservation efforts to protect them.

In addition to the red colobus monkeys, the forest is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including exotic birds, butterflies, reptiles, and ancient trees. The guides will share insights into the ecological importance of the forest, as well as its cultural and historical value to local communities.

A highlight of the excursion is the visit to the mangroves, a vital ecosystem that protects the coastlines from erosion and serves as a nursery for many marine species. Walking along the wooden walkways that traverse the mangroves, you will explore this unique habitat and understand its crucial role in the ecological balance of the region.
