Kandy – Matale – Dambulla

Breakfast at the hotel.

Then we will head to Dambulla (80Km, 2.30h approx). On the way we will stop to visit the Matale Spice Garden*, where they will explain the cultivation and use of seeds and spices typical of the country, including a small neck and shoulder massage (10 min).

Upon arrival, we will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC. Dambulla is a World Heritage Site and is also the most impressive temple-cave in Sri Lanka. The complex consists of five caves with more than 2000m2 of murals and painted ceilings, it is the largest area of paintings of this type found in the world.

Upon arrival in Dambulla, we can enjoy a 4×4 safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla or Eco Park. (15:00 p.m. -18:00 p.m.). It is a recently declared National Park, and can be found in the north central province. Located on the banks of the Minneriya Reservoir, which was built in the 4th century BC., Minneriya is a hideout for many elephants, it is actually possible to observe herds of elephants here, with approximately between 50 and 60 elephants in a herd. Apart from elephants, it is a natural habitat for migratory and resident species such as grey herons, painted storks, etc. You can also see 3 different species of monkeys like the silica macaque, the leaf monkey and the grey langur.
